The White Floral Rogan Painting Kala Cotton Bhujodi Saree beautifully combines the heritage of Bhujodi handloom weaving with the ancient tradition of Rogan painting. Handwoven by skilled artisans using authentic kala cotton, this saree is lightweight, breathable, and comfortable, making it suitable for every season.
The highlight of the saree is its hand-painted floral Rogan artwork. Each floral motif is carefully created using the traditional Rogan painting technique, where castor oil-based Rogan paste and natural pigments are applied entirely by hand. The intricate floral design adds elegance while preserving one of Kutch's rarest living art forms.
Kala cotton, native to the Kutch region of Gujarat, is valued for its natural strength, durability, and soft texture. Combined with the distinctive Bhujodi weave and handcrafted Rogan painting, this saree represents the rich textile traditions of Kutch. It is an excellent choice for festivals, cultural programs, exhibitions, formal gatherings, and special occasions.

About Rogan Art
The Living Legacy of Kutch Rogan Art
Historical Genesis: Spanning over 1,550 years, the tradition of Rogan painting is a profound testament to Indian craftsmanship. While Western historical narratives often credit Europe with the invention of oil painting in the 12th century, archaeological and UNESCO-backed evidence from the Buddhist caves of Bamiyan, Afghanistan, proves that this technique was pioneered by Indian master artisans in 5th-century Bihar, serving as a spiritual and artistic practice among the Buddha’s own disciples.
The Technical Mastery: The craft relies on a complex "drying oil" method. Artists labor for hours to boil castor oil into a thick, viscous paste. This pigment is then manipulated with a metal stylus. In a display of extreme physical control, the artist trails the pigment onto the fabric without the metal ever contacting the textile, resulting in a perfectly raised, glossy, and durable motif.
Etymological Roots: The term "Rogan" is deeply linguistic, stemming from the ancient Sanskrit term rangan, which translates simply and poetically to "to dye."
The Masters of Madhapar: Today, the torch of this tradition is carried by Ashish and Komal Kansara. Operating out of Madhapar, they continue to produce the legendary "Tree of Life" and other intricate patterns. Ashish Kansara holds a singular position in the field, as he is the only living practitioner to have achieved mastery in all three foundational styles: Rogan, Nirmika, and Varnika.
Certification and Integrity: To safeguard the future of this art, Ashish Kansara serves as a legally authorized user of the GI Tag for Kutch Rogan Craft (AU/35946/GI/718/1). This ensures that the technical, historical, and cultural standards of the craft remain untarnished and authentic.
