This handwoven Tangaliya shawl brings alive old tradition from Kutch, Saurashtra. Woven on a pit loom using extra weft technique. Kutch sheep wool and a Bhujodi style approach, the shawl features tiny twisted threads called "danna" that form raised 3D dots and geometric motifs. The black field and white dot pattern create a timeless, elegant contrast that works as a shawl, decorative throw. Other craft involve is bandhani work, hand knot bandhej work.
.About Bandhani
Bandhani is a traditional tie-and-dye method from Gujarat. The word 'bandhani' or 'bandhej' is derived from the Sanskrit verbal root bandh (“to bind, to tie”) Small sections of yarn or fabric are tightly tied before dyeing to create resist dots and patterns. When combined with Tangaliya and Bhujodi weaving, Bandhani adds colour-play and an artisanal finish that highlights the shawl’s motifs
About Tangaliya weaving
Tangaliya is a specialised weave from the Kutch–Saurashtra region. The technique uses extra weft threads twisted into small raised knots called danna to create bead-like dot patterns and geometric designs. Traditionally woven by the Dangasia community, Tangaliya shawls are GI-protected for their unique craft identity and heritage value. These dots are woven on pit looms.About Bhujodi (extra weft technique)
Bhujodi weavers use an extra-weft method to build up motifs through careful insertion of threads. This technique produces rich geometric patterns and gives the fabric structure and depth. In this shawl, Bhujodi weaving provides the base weave and the framework for Tangaliya and Bandhani detailing.
