The tool used to create aari embroidery is the hooked aari needle. Aari embroidery is done by tightening the cloth with a wooden ring or frame. An aari is then used to work on the stretched cloth. It is believed that it was first developed by leather workers who used to create embroidered footwear. It was also popular during the Mughal and British eras. Craftswomen create the painting-like effect using very fine stitches. Most of the motifs in Aari embroidery are derived from nature, like colourful flowers and leaves, trees, animals, and birds. Aari work sarees are in demand by women of all age groups. The golden and silver threads in aari embroidery draw attention. The craftswomen of the Mochi community have popularised this old art. Traditional hand work necessitates repeated stitches, fine thread work, practise with the aari-the needle, and patience.
