- About Katri Embroidery -
Mutva community migrated from Sindh to Kutch 300 years ago. Main profession of peoples from this community is Animal Husbandary. They are mainly spread in area called 'Banni' , located in the western part of the Kutch district. Their embroidery is extremely intricate and based on geometrical patterns.
Craftswomen use various stiches and mirrors to create the designs. The women are highly skilled in single thread embroidery. They create geometrical shapes using the combination of many types of stitches.
Chain stich and along with it small colourful mirrors. They reflect the essence of culture and colours of life that create the magical world.
Main embroidery of mutva community mukko, chopad, Gotanv, Chakan katri and pakko. While each style is unique craftwomen use the terms pakko and kachcho to group these styles.
Pakko styles such as mukko and chopad use one of the pakko stitches as their primary stitch.
Kachcho styles such as katari and bido use a kachcho (fragile) stich as their primary stitch.
Thank to craftswomen for doing so valuable craft, showing their own special strength that can be seen with surprise
