The Handloom Bhujodi Rogan Art Hand Painted Saree is a stunning testament to craftsmanship and tradition. At its heart is the intricate Rogan paint, a thick and vivid natural colour created by boiling castor oil for hours until it achieves a rich, viscous consistency that binds permanently to the fabric. Designs are meticulously crafted freehand, with an artist using a wooden stylus to delicately trail thread-like strands of the paint onto the fabric's surface. A defining feature is the "half-and-half" technique, where the cloth is carefully folded after a portion of the design is painted, transferring a flawless mirror image and creating a beautiful, unique symmetry. This elegant and timeless piece is an ideal choice for anyone who cherishes the artistry and rich heritage of India's traditional textiles.

About Rogan Art
The history of Rogan painting was shrouded in misconception and unsupported folklore until 2008, when new documentary evidence emerged. That year, during research in the city of "Bahamian," a Japanese scientist and UNESCO made a ground breaking discovery. They found an entire community of Buddha followers living in a town where the walls, wooden doors, and even clothing were adorned with exquisite oil paintings, as though they were in a contemporary studio. These artworks, believed to be the world's oldest oil paintings and dating back to the 5th century, revealed the secret of their medium. The report on the discovery showed that the oil paint was made by mixing linseed oil, chalk, and natural pigments, with linseed, walnut, castor, and poppyseed oils also used as substitutes.
During the era of the Silk Road, Indian artisans exported their handicrafts, including this painting style, to Europe, China, and Japan. In the state of Bihar and Gujarat, Rogan painting was practiced by Hindu communities. However, the craft faced near-extinction with the rise of machine printing. Approximately 60 to 70 years ago, Rogan painting was widespread across Gujarat. It was used to create Chaniyas and Sarees, which were integral to Hindu community weddings and remain popular in many villages today. These traditional Chaniyas were specifically worn by the Bharwad, Rabari, Ahir, Patel, and other communities. Historically, Rajasthan also had numerous Rogan artisans, and the art form has a continuous lineage since the time of the Buddha's followers.
